Player Profile: Marlon Pack

In this blog I will also be looking to provide profiles on players across the leagues who you should really start taking notice of if you haven't previously. I will try not to make these too obvious; I will not be one of the many many bloggers purring over the performances of Clint Dempsey thus far this season. Not that he doesn't deserve the praise, because he does, just because it's all a bit boring...

Today I am going to tell you about Marlon Pack. Centre midfield dynamo at Cheltenham who had had an outstanding season at the heart of an overachieving Cheltenham team. He was on loan at Cheltenham from Pompey last season and did enough to earn himself a contact at Whaddon Road at the end of the season. This term he has been the heartbeat of Mark Yates' team who occupied a top 3 spot for the early months of the season and look poised to clinch a play-off place. Pack has only recently turned 21 in March yet his physicality is that of a far more mature player. He is 6 foot 2 and powerfully built. He uses this strength in the middle of the park yet is also in possession of a sweet right boot. His free kicks are hit with power and accuracy whilst oozing quality on the ball.

Pack also is in possession of a not so secret weapon; a Delap-esque long throw. Most teams now seem to have a player that they use as a trebuchet, yet Pack's throw is special. They are low, flat and powerful causing real troubles for the opposition. Yates surely had these throws in mind when he recently recruited the huge Ben Burgess on loan. As complete a midfielder as they come at this level and at such a tender age, Pack has a real future ahead of him. Rumours are that Di Canio has already sealed a deal for his services next season at the County Ground, yet this is unconfirmed as of yet. He will certainly be plying his trade at least one level higher next season, with Cheltenham fans hoping it will be with them.
